Why Aren't Brands Running Weekly Events at Sporting Venues? An Honest Answer

A brand owning Thursday evening at a city's best padel venue is accessing an excellent audience, in their most receptive emotional state, every week. The question is not whether this format works.

The standard brand response to the sports venue activation opportunity is a one-off event: a tournament, a launch party, a branded competitive format tied to a specific campaign. The one-off produces good content and reasonable attendance, then is discontinued because the campaign it was designed for has ended.

The counterfactual is remarkable. A brand running a weekly Thursday evening format at a Manchester padel venue for twelve months has accessed approximately forty-eight audience sessions. At forty active participants per session, the brand has had genuine, physical, emotionally engaged touchpoints with approximately two thousand individuals over the year, many of them more than once.

The reason most brands do not build this is not that the opportunity is not compelling. It is that the model requires operational consistency that campaign-based marketing budgets and structures do not naturally provide. The campaign has a start and end date. The community has neither.

The brands that will make this investment are those whose categories most benefit from association with the sports and wellness identity: nutrition brands, activewear companies, financial services targeting young professionals, premium food and drink companies, and recovery or wellness products.

This is the kind of thing we're set up to take off a brand's hands: the venue, the organising, the people and the content. The brand's part is to keep showing up.
